1859 Shield Reverse 1C J-228 Indian Cent PCGS MS65 (CAC/PHOTO SEAL)

Availability: Out of stock

$5,250.00

SKU: 83457421

Gem Unc (13: 5,4,4) A very popular coin with the reverse of 1860. This is part of the short issue of December 1859. With a mintage of only 1,000 pieces, it is a super scarce date. Although listed in the pattern series, the quantity struck and format suggest that this is not a pattern, but a regular issue. Apparently none were put into circulation, as very few of this issue are worn. Perhaps a dealer bought the entire mintage soon after their production and sold them to collectors. This would have cost him about $10. They are now collected as part of the regular Indian cent set.
