Gem Proof (14: 4,5,5) BN. Bronze. Two leaves under the E in STATES. One of the finest known examples. Only about 40 examples were struck in both copper and bronze (20 copper -J172 and 20 bronze - J173). It is difficult to tell the difference in the alloy. The dies show heavy die polish in the fields on both sides. Tilt the coin away from the light and the mirrors are super deep. This reverse was used on the Liberty head cents and the clash from the ear-hole from that die is still visible in the center on the reverse die used here. The heavy die polishing is a positive feature and is highly desired. The coin is mostly solid brown with purple highlights. It is an awesome coin!
