What we can do for you?

How to market your coins for the best price.

Auctions - NO.

Do you think sending your coins to auction is the way to get the best price for your collection? Maybe not. In my experience, buyers at auction are usually dealers, like myself, looking for inventory. If dealers are the main buyers, then the coins selling at auction are netting their owners about 75% of the wholesale market. Once a coin sells, even if you don't like the result, there is no going back. At auction, coins sell to the highest bidder, but that may not be the most you can get.

Here are a couple of examples:

1) A collection of various coins ranging in value from $10 to $2,000 is given to an auction company. They separate the best pieces and may convince you to certify them. You'll be charged this fee. The lower value coins will be put in groups lots. These always sell to dealers. The better coins after certification will be presented in the next auction. Say you are lucky and a few sell for full value. What do you get? The auctions charge 20% buyer's premium, so you automatically get 20% knocked off the fair-market value. They may ask for a seller's fee of 10% since there is so many lower end coins. Now your selling for a 30% discount. Also, since dealers are buying the large lots of lower value coins, your likely getting about 50% of the full value there. Settlement on these auctions is typically 45 days after the sale.

2) A super collection of gem coins is hotly contested by dealers and auction companies. You think by going to the auction, they'll fight it out and you'll win. No, it wont work like that in most cases. I have seen many, many collections that I had strong offers on, go to auction. Afterwards, the prices realized is nearly always lower than my offer. Why? When I make an offer, I may have a buyer in mind who will buy it from me. At auction, that buyer will be notified about the coin and will bid on it without me competing with him, either because he hired me to bid for him, or out of courtesy. He'll get it cheaper. You'll sell it for less than you could have done.

Consignment - Yes

With a consignment, you can set the price with our consultation for maximum return in the shortest periods of time. If it doesn't sell, the price can be lowered. If a counter-offer is requested, you can think about accepting, or not. You are much more in control.

We have a structured commission schedule for consignments:

Over $40,000 - 5%

Over $4,000 - $40,000 - 10%

Over $400 - $4,000 - 15%

Over $40 - $400 - 20%

Minimum $25

Some fees may be applied, like charge fees and grading. Settlement is within 30 days of the confirmation of the sale.

Purchase - Yes

We can also make a purchase offer for your collection. This works well for collections of smaller valued items. Sometimes a combination of consignment and purchase agreement works. This is when we handle the collection like a consignment for a given period of time, but with a guarentee to buy the balance after a certain period. This way you know what your getting and when your getting it.

Buying coins

Please feel free to browse our web site. Please call us if you have any questions. We maintain strict confidentiality with your information.

If you see a major coin at another dealer's web site, perhaps we can get you that coin cheaper or get it in-hand to offer our guidance on the purchase.

We represent many of our clients at auction. Representation get you our honest opinion on the value and quality of the coin prior to the sale. We will bid for you, protecting your identity from the auction company, who sometimes can be annoyingly aggressive if their effort to get you to consign to them. For this service we charge 5% plus any fees assoiciated with the sale. We are not charged sales tax as a reseller, so if you want to avoid a tax charge with the auction company, we can help.
