1877 1C Indian Cent PCGS MS65+RD (PHOTO SEAL/CAC)
Gem Unc (14: 4,5,5) RD. A stunning example of this keystone date in the set. It is fully struck and has hardly any marks. It has the look worthy of a MS66RD. There are a few light flyspecks to the left of the portrait. In-hand they are not distracting, although they obviously keep it from a MS66RD grade. It is fully struck with intense luster. The small group of high end examples that make up the MS65+RD to MS66+RD grade range are eagerly tracked and discussed. There are only 11 examples that exist in this range. With the exception of one example with a spot on the cheek, they all trade in the $100K and up range. The last MS65+RD to come on the market is the 1851 collection coin which sold for $99,000 (SB 2/15:1175). This example is better, in my opinion. If it were not for the third MS65+RD (the "spot on the cheek" example) being sold cheap at auction twice, the presently offered coin would be priced over $100,000. I think there is an opportunity here that you should not let get away.
PCGS pop 3, with eight graded higher.
