1871 1C Shallow N Indian Cent PCGS MS64BN (PHOTO SEAL/CAC)
Choice Unc (14: 4,5,5) BN. One of the finest examples known of the scarce Snow-4 die pair. This is the plate coin in the book. It is fully struck with outstanding surfaces. There are two die pairs of the scarce Shallow N but most are the Snow-5. The Shallow N design is the old design in use until 1869. In 1870 it was replaced by the Bold N design. A few dies were leftover and many were used in 1870. In 1871 the Shallow N revere was used for the Proof issue - a die held over and used since 1868. There were also two business strike dies used. Out of all the 1871's issued only a small fraction are Shallow N. These are highly sought after in all grades.
