1871 1C Indian Cent PCGS PR65CAM (PHOTO SEAL)

Gem Proof (14: 4,5,5) RD. Shallow N. Super look with frosty devices and deep mirrors. This date hardly ever comes looking this way. The way the dies were prepared, it is a wonder there are any cameos at all! Only three examples are graded with one of those a grade higher. There are no deep cameos. This issue is not made with new dies. This is a strange year. Most are struck with a left over Shallow N reverse die which began usage in 1868. This die also struck some of the rare 1864-L proofs. It has numerous die polish lines and other artifacts. The obverse always shows heavy die polishing and is likely not freshly made for the Proof production. This is important to realize this and know that a cameo for this date is very, very unusual and certainly very rare. I personally like this example compared to the other PR65RD CAM graded by PCGS. The PR66RD CAM is a Photo Sealed coin, ex: Newmismatist", Ron Sirna. It sold for $10K in 2003 and hasn't been seen since.
