1866 1C Nickel J-457, PT1c Indian Cent PCGS MS64 (PHOTO SEAL/CAC)

Choice Unc (7: 3,3,1). Nickel, 3 grams. A very rare pattern struck in nickel. The planchet is thin and nickel is very hard to strike, as a result it is weakly struck. It is listed as a Rarity-8 pattern ( two known). The format is Mint state (non-proof) dies with a normal coin alignment. The color is very bright, nearly the shade of aluminum. The holder has a metric of 80% copper and 20% nickel, which goes against the attribution definition. It is believed to be wrong. This is based on the prior attribution as pure nickel and the very light hue in unlike any copper-nickel coin I've ever seen. The are two other examples graded by PCGS. The MS66 is featured on PCGS CoinFacts and looks a bit to yellow to be pure nickel. There are very few marks and it is a striking example.
