1864-L 1C With L Copper-nickel Indian Cent J-358 NGC PR61 (PHOTO SEAL)
Proof (11: 3,5,5). The very rare 1864 with L struck in copper-nickel. Only four proof examples are known, and this is the 3rd finest. This was struck with the Snow-PR3 die pair which was also used to strike an example of the Proof 1864 With L bronze issues. The coin has deep mirrors and is fully struck. There are some horizontal hairlines on the obverse, and very few more on the reverse, which is the reason for the PR61 grade. The eye appeal is otherwise great. The 1864-L CN is listed as a pattern (J-358) but it is struck in a metal used in 1864 and with a design used in 1864 with dies used on the bronze 1864 With L issue struck in 1864. It is super rare and desirable. Ex: Dave Karpeles collection (Historical Scholar collection).
