1863 Civil War Token - Hunting Dogs / Lincoln REDEEMED F-134/184b NGC MS66
Gem Unc (12: 4,4,4). Brass. The classic rarity known as the "Hunting Dogs." This die pairing has the rare Lincoln REDEEMED die. This is a very rare (R9) die pair. This example is well struck and shows the engraving detail very nicely. This is the only example graded by NGC. The REDEEMED die is very rare and all examples are very desirable. The Hunting Dogs are also very rare and desirable. Here they are paired together. The die engraving is attributed to the Rhode Island die sinker, whose identity remains unknown. The fine engraving skill is evident on the attention to details on the dogs. Keep in mind that this was a hand-engraved die. The details were sculpted directly into the die. Impressive in this era, which is known for very shoddy engraving work.
