1859 1C Shield Reverse Indian Cent PCGS MS65 (PHOTO SEAL)
Gem Unc (13: 4,4,5) The popular shield reverse 1859. These were struck as a regular issue late in 1859 but never released for circulation - we know this as most show no evidence of circulation. Perhaps a dealer bought up the entire mintage. Until recently these were listed in the pattern section, but it is clear that they were not struck for anything but circulation. This is now included in the regular issue set by most collectors. This is a first generation holder an has the initial coin numbering system on the holder. This was revamped around 1988.
