1859 Shield Reverse 1C Indian Cent PCGS MS62 (PHOTO SEAL)
Unc (13: 4,4,5). A very popular addition to the Indian cent set. The Shield Reverse, or "Type of 1860" was struck in December 1859 as a regular issue with the newly changed reverse. Only 1,000 examples were struck and the entire mintage was likely bought up by coin dealers for $10. They were distributed to collectors and not released into circulation, as nearly all are in Uncirculated condition. In fact, most are MS64 or better. Here is an affordable example. It has a light golden tone and just a few light marks. The Shield Reverse is now listed in the Red Book as part of the regular issues.
