1859 1C Indian Cent Shield Reverse J-228 PCGS MS62 (PHOTO SEAL)
Average Unc (11: 3,3,5) A very popular addition to the Indian cent set. The Shield Reverse, or "Type of 1860" was struck in December 1859 as a regular issue with the newly changed reverse. Only 1,000 examples were struck and the entire mintage was likely bought up by coin dealers for $10. They were distributed to collectors and not released into circulation, as nearly all are in Uncirculated condition. In fact, most are MS64 or better. Here is an affordable example. It has a light golden tone and just a few light marks. This is in a PCGS holder with the coin number for the Laurel Wreath reverse. This can be changed by PCGS.
