1858 1C Small Letters Flying Eagle Cent PCGS MS66+ (PHOTO SEAL) ## Finest Known ##
Superb Gem Unc (13: 4,4,5) Full strike with outstanding luster. This is the finest graded example, tied with two others, which are all images on Coin Facts. I judge this example to be the finest of the three. The intense luster creates a cartwheel luster that is very captivating. As a one-year type with the lower relief eagle and smaller letters style, this offers a super opportunity. The Small Letters design is a redesign by Assistant Engraver Anthony Paquet made to give the die a shallower relief and thereby increasing the dies life. The reverse die was also redesigned from the 1857 style.
