1857 1C Snow-7 Obv. Die Clash with $20 Flying Eagle Cent PCGS XF45 (PHOTO SEAL)
About Unc (9: 3,3,3). FS-403. This is the real stopper in the Flying Eagle variety set. It is more interesting and much rarer than say, the 1888/7 Indian cent. The obverse die shows a clash mark from the obverse of a $20 Liberty double eagle. This is the third finest known example behind the AU58 Fore/Marhefka example and the XF45 Hosier Flyer collection examples. This one has full AU luster and original surfaces but shows some weakness on the right side. The ERICA is missing. Although the Hosier Flyer coin has more wear, it has a much better strike.
The outline of the Liberty head from the $20 die is completely visible. The face shows though the AMERICA. The chin, above the eagle's tail and the neck below the tail. The base of the portrait is visible though the date. The back of the portrait shows below the U in UNITED. If the strike were full this would grade AU55.
No MS pieces have ever been found, despite army's of eBay and searchers looking. It is one of the top cherry-pick varieties in all numismatics.
