1856 1C Flying Eagle Cent / Ornamented Shield J-184 PCGS PR64+ (PHOTO SEAL & CAC)
S-PT1. The Ornamented Shield reverse. Very rare as only 7 examples are traced in the Attribution Guide. This example was not known at the time, so the number traced is now 8. Although I estimated in the Attribution Guide that 25 could have been struck, I now think the mintage is only 10. This reverse was used on the 1858 cent pattern series. The striking of this issue is likely done at the same time as the Snow-4 Low Leaves 1856. Both are known in similar quantities. This example has good mirrors and comes from an old time collection prior to Don Kelley. Ex: Exemplar collection (on holder); HA 3/14; Don Kelley collection.
