1854 1C J-160 PT2 Braided Hair Cent NGC PR66BN
Superb Gem Proof (14: 4,4,5) BN Copper. Of a total mintage of 100 examples I estimate that only 30 examples are actually copper, the rest being bronze. The die state is Die Stage A, with a scalloped clash marks by the E in ONE. This is consistent with the copper attribution. This is likely the finest example as it is much better than the few other NGC examples in this grade. None are graded higher than PR65 by PCGS. Most examples are dull and lifeless. This example has good mirrors and a beautiful purple tone over a solid brown patina. Ex: Simpson collection.
