"Some people will forever be associated with a particular numismatic field, no matter who writes what on that field in the future. ... The world will always associate Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents with Rick Snow." --from the foreword by Tom DeLorey
A very scarce repunched date. The spacing is very wide, but shallow. Third finest known. Weakly struck, which makes some of the lettering shallow.
Full strike and with some luster remaining. This is a very tough overdate. It is also a very bold doubled die. The coin looks like a MS coin but was lightly cleaned and has some hairlines. It has been net-graded to AU55.
Full strike with a beautiful golden tone. A few light marks below the portrait. The type is labeled on the holder. Secure plus holder with the image on CoinFacts.
Very few marks but with a very pebbly surface due to extreme die wear on the obverse. The reverse is sharp and a fairly early die state. Very interesting combination.
Full strike with very intense luster. There is a strike-through which flattens out the LIBE in LIBERTY. The coin has no marks and would otherwise grade MS64RD or better. The strike-through is mint-caused, so the argument could be made that it is vastly undergraded.
Scarce doubled die reverse - one of the boldest of the series.
Chocolate brown with just a few light marks by the date. This is a scarce and popular doubled die and misplaced digit variety.
Full strike with great luster and very few marks. Some light specks limit the grade.
99% RED. Fully struck with nearly full red color. It has a bold repunched date too. This is an outstanding coin in every respect.
Full strike with very few marks. This is a very tough variety with a bold 1 sticking out of the denticles.
100% RED. Fully struck with very few marks. Here is a beautiful coin that should have been called full red.
Shallow N reverse. Full strike with outstanding eye appeal and very few marks. A super example for the date.
Multiple digits in the denticles. Doubled die reverse. This is a very dramatic and popular variety. This is the finest example reported. Secure holder with the variety labeled on the holder.
30% RED. Full strike with just a few light marks. The key date with all the detail you would every want. If you thought the mintage of 825,000 was low, consider that only one reverse die is known and it could only strike about 200,000 pieces before breaking. The real number made is much lower than most people realize.
Magenta, lavender and emerald toning. This is from the Centennial Auctions sale of the Time Capsule collection, 8/2011, lot #78 where it sold for $4370. An outstanding toned example from a originally collection sold by the Chapman Brothers in 1904.
95% RED. This is a very wide repunched date. It is a very popular and scarce variety.
Here is a very unsusual variety. There is extensive die rust on the reverse, This is the only example seen, the discovery coin and the coin plated in the book. The coin is full red with a stain on the reverse at 4:00.
