Very Fine: VF-20, VF-30

The borders on the LIBERTY headband will be visible. The lower ribbon and hair curl will be connected.
VF-20 Typical

Minimum: The lower edge of LIBERTY headband just shows. Some major contact marks may show.
Maximum: The lower edge of the headband is very plain. Many small marks may show.
VF-30 Choice
Minimum: The lower edge of the headband and LIBERTY is clear and distinct. Only a few marks show.
Maximum: The lower ribbon and the hair curl just touch. Very few marks.
NOTES:
The strike of the coin is independent of the grade, however a weakly struck coin without the full headband should be downgraded to a F-12.
{This is an important dividing line: VF's have the lower hair curl connected to the ribbon, while XF's have them separated. Many certified coins which are actually VF's get into XF holders. (don't pay full money for those misgraded pieces). XF-45 should have full diamonds. Cleaned and problem coins should be discounted or net graded downward.}
